his is our first of a new line of picture frames. The scarf joint with the inlaid Ebony pegs is an architectural detail that is prevalent in the famous homes of the architects Greene and Greene. Instead of just butting up two pieces of horizontal wood trim banding they used this joint to continue the run and as an opportunity to embellish. It's a favorite of mine and looks great as a component of the frame. The frame is joined at the corners with a half lap dovetail in the back. The recess for the picture is 1/2" wide and 3/8" deep giving room for glass, mat and picture if required. It looks equally well in portrait or landscape position but can be made in either and, of course, we can make any size you may need. Our standard finish is oil , rubbed out and waxed, then buffed out for a beautiful, natural looking sheen. We can make them in any wood but our standards are Quarter sawn White or Red Oak, Mahogany, Sapele, and Meranti. The picture below is in Meranti, which is one of the substitutes used for Mahogany when it was hard to find a few years ago. It's not as expensive as Mahogany but looks quite nice stained and finished. |
